Brewing Basics: Master the Perfect Cup

You know what you like best, and the beauty of tea is that you don’t need to be an expert to enjoy a fantastic cup. That being said, here are some tips and tricks we use in our tea shop to make every brew marvelous.

First, follow the recommended steep times for your tea type. This can be found on our website under "Brewing Tips" or on the bag/jar in which you purchased your tea in! For instance, black teas love boiling water and a 1-3 minute steep for bold flavors, while green teas prefer cooler water (around 170°F) and a shorter steep to avoid bitterness. Herbal teas are more forgiving, often growing richer the longer they steep. But don’t be afraid to experiment—try adjusting the amount of tea leaves or tweaking the steep time. What suits your taste buds best?

Sweeteners can also transform your cup. Honey brings out floral notes in chamomile or lavender teas, while brown sugar deepens the caramel undertones of black teas. For a special twist, consider maple syrup in spiced blends or a slice of fresh citrus to brighten fruity teas. There are no hard rules—just endless possibilities to make your tea truly yours.

The magic of tea lies in its versatility. Try new combinations, trust your palate, and enjoy the process.
